Komo POV

Elizabeth Ibarra was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, México and lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Many of Ibarra's works feature figures like the one pictured here, human, yet alien-like and in this painting, somewhat maternal even. She refers to these figures as her "creatures" and they could represent the experience of being a foreigner with an outside perspective or simply the feeling of loneliness. Traces of Joan Miro and Louise Bourgeois, two of our other favorite artists, are also visible in her work, which we love. Ibarra is honest, at times silly and other times sardonic in person and in her painting. She is inspired by connectivity, simple imagery, and cosmology.
